Strong rip currents blamed for drowning death of 28-year old

A 28-year-old man died Thursday night after being pulled from the surf in Venice, news media outlets reported.

The man was found about 6:20 p.m. off the 1900 block of Ocean Front Walk and taken from the water in cardiac arrest, Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Lifeguards and firefighters rendered advanced lifesaving measures before the man was taken to a hospital, Scott said.

The mayor's crisis response team was dispatched to assist the man's distraught family, Scott said.
