String of arson fires in Studio City area under investigation by LAFD

The Los Angeles Fire Department is investigating a string of eight arson fires that have been set in the Studio City/North Hollywood area over the past several weeks.

A public meeting was held at LAFD station 86 Wednesday night to discuss the case, but arson investigators didn't show up, and officials said they couldn't talk about the investigation.

Megan O'Neil, a Studio City resident, said she's concerned about the number of fires that have been set.

"The fire that was lit near my car, it could've gotten bigger than what it was, luckily it didn't, but it's very scary as somebody who lives in the neighborhood," she said. "My dumpster is next to my car, so if the dumpster goes on my fire my car is on fire, above my car is my apartment, and I manage my building and I care about the people that live in my building, so if I'm gone and something happens and I'm not able to report it, everything could be up in smoke in a matter of seconds."

O'Neil snapped a photo of a man whom she believes is the arsonist.

"My neighbor and friend had given me a description of somebody she saw light a fire," she said. "So I was kind of looking out for someone with his description and he matched the description perfectly and there was a fire at his feet."

Fire officials confirm the man is a person of interest in the case, but not yet a suspect.

FOX 11 is also told he is on formal probation for arson.
