Police seek 5 suspects in smash-and-grab robbery at South Coast Plaza

Costa Mesa police detectives were seeking leads Saturday that could help them identify five male suspects who staged a smash-and-grab robbery at a South Coast Plaza watch store.

The robbery occurred just after 8:20 p.m. Friday at the Rolex watch store at the Costa Mesa shopping mall, police said.

The suspects were dressed in hoodies when they rushed into the store, Costa Mesa police Lt. Greg Scott said.

They "physically confronted a security guard and engaged in a hurried smash-and-grab of merchandise from cases before fleeing the area,'' Scott said.

"A dark Chevrolet sedan believed used in the commission of the robbery was recovered by police later that evening in a neighboring city. Evidence believed related to the earlier crime was recovered from the vehicle, which was seized by detectives.''

Anyone with information about the suspects was urged to call Costa Mesa police detectives at (714) 754-5637.
