Small plane makes emergency landing on 55 Fwy in Orange County

(FOX 11/CNS) - A small airplane made an emergency landing on the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway in Costa Mesa, authorities said Monday.

The emergency landing happened about 7:50 p.m. Sunday after the plane experienced engine failure, according to the Costa Mesa Fire Department.

No one was injured on the plane or the freeway in the landing. The craft touched down just south of Del Mar Avenue and the Corona del Mar (73) Freeway, temporarily closing the number 3, 4 and 5 lanes of the northbound 55, Caltrans said.

The lanes reopened at 11:40 p.m.
