Queen Mary gets a facelift: Upgrades and urgent repairs underway

Renovations at the Queen Mary begin Monday to restore its exterior color and to spruce it up.

After 80 years of corrosion and weathering storms, Urban Commons, the leaseholders, are ready to revamp the waterfront destination. Environmentally-friendly coating will be used to eliminate existing oxidation and prevent future rust, officials said.

It has been more than 15 years since the ship has had a paint job.

The project was expected to last about a year.
