Man stabbed in neck at Ventura restaurant; Suspect chased down and arrested

A 35-year-old Ventura man remains in critical condition after a homeless man stabbed him in the neck for what police say, is an unknown reason.

49-year old Jamal Jackson seemed to sit quietly in the backseat of the police car.

But minutes before he was chased down by patrons and employees of this beachside restaurant.

The man, described as a vagrant, entered aloha steakhouse around 9:30 wearing a knife.

He walked to the back corner and then stabbed once in the neck a 35-year-old man, having dinner with his wife and 5-year-old daughter.

He was bleeding profusely, and two of the restaurant's workers came to his aid to try to staunch the bleeding.

Others ran out of the restaurant and cornered Jackson on the beach.

Police arrived not long after.

But police say, Jackson is known to them as a troubled man.

Jackson is in custody for attempted murder and endangering a child.

The unidentified victim was rushed into surgery last night at last word is still hospitalized in critical condition.

And the workers who came to his aid say tey're not working tonight. FOX 11 was told, they need some time to get over the trauma of what they witnessed. The victim's called to thank them and everyone here is praying for his recovery.
