Man arrested in connection with Santa Ana murder of woman found in dumpster

- Anaheim police have arrested Amer Alhasan, 28, in connection with the murder of a Santa Ana woman whose body was found in a dumpster.

Detectives caught Alhasan at Los Angeles International Airport just hours before he was going to board an international flight to Jordan.

“He had a significant amount of personal belongings with him,” Daron Wyatt, Anaheim Police Department, said.

Alhasan is the sole suspect in the murder of Tyanie Ly, a 38 year-old mother of three from Santa Ana.

Her body was found early Tuesday morning stuffed in a duffle bag inside a dumpster.

“It was her family that called that morning after the news broadcast to inquire whether or not she may have been the victim,” Wyatt said.

According to police the Ly and Alhasan were dating, but detectives don’t know much about their relationship.

Alhasan has a history of domestic violence with other women.

“We have reports that he may have committed a sexual assault in Jordan and fled that country to come back to the United States recently,” Wyatt said. “There is a prior crime in California he was arrested for, but not charged.”

Detectives believe Alhasan murdered Ly at another location several hours before threw her body in a dumpster behind a housing complex on South Euclid Street.

A person looking for recyclables found her body.

Although police identified Ly shortly after her body was found, detectives didn’t release her identity because they didn’t want that information to jeopardize Alhasan’s arrest.

He’s being held on $5 million dollars bail.

The Orange County District Attorney is expected to file first-degree murder charges.
