The crash happened years ago in a remote part of Los Angeles County and now the family is telling their story again to inspire others.

I've covered a lot of stories and interviewed a lot of interesting people, and this one ranks near the top. It's a mountain crash survival story with a bizarre twist, and I mean bizarre. It's also about family, about love, about friendship, and about determination.

On a more basic level it's also about texting and letting at least someone know your plans.This family's been through so much but has come out of it closer than ever before and it was my privilege to spend some time with them and hear them relive dad's incredible story of survival, listen to him explain how he stayed strong and to tell their story of togetherness.
