LA County is one step closer to making public shaming a reality

Since last year, LA County Supervisor Don Knabe has been pushing to establish a public shaming ordinance similar to the one in Orange County where the names of men convicted of soliciting prostitutes are listed on an Orange County DA website. Knabe believes a little public humiliation in LA County will go a long way. "

"We're gonna have to let the world know who these people are. What they're doing and how they're doing it. And I think we'll have a dramatic impact on the supply side of it," says Knabe.

The ultimate goal is to save young girls from a life of sexual slavery. Girls like Oree who was forced into prostitution from the age of 11 to 15 by a man who promised to take care of her when she ran away from home.

She says, "You feel like, how can this person love me and he lets 50, 60 other men have sex with me or or rape me or mistreat me." Oree's story isn't unique. There are an estimated 20 million sex trafficking victims worldwide. LA county hopes to have the public shaming ordinance in place within the next six months.
