Homicide detectives investigating death of female infant found behind mortuary in Bellflower

Sheriff's detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a female infant on Monday in Bellflower, a deputy said.

The child was discovered by a worker around 10:35 a.m. behind Funeraria del Angel, a mortuary located in the 10300 block of Alondra Boulevard, Deputy Kimberly Alexander said.

The infant was found in a car seat partially covered by a blanket behind the mortuary, according to the sheriff's department.

The baby was pronounced dead at the scene, Alexander said.

The cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

The infant's body was discovered as a search was ongoing for a missing 30-year-old Northern California man. Alexander Echeverria, last seen with his 8-month-old daughter about 10:30 p.m. Friday driving in Bellflower in a gray 2014 VW Jetta, with California license number 7FFT866. At this time, sheriff's officials are not connecting the two cases.
