Gunman who wounded victim dies in officer-involved shooting in Anaheim

Officers shot and killed a gunman allegedly involved Saturday in an Anaheim shooting that left another person with a leg wound, police said.

The officer-involved shooting, which happened about 4:45 p.m. was preceded by a shooting 15 minutes earlier in the 900 block of South Roberts Street, near Ball Road, according to Anaheim police.

"The incident continued to the 2000 block of West Cris Avenue,'' Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said. "The shooting victim and suspect were located there. The suspect was armed with a handgun and was shot by officers.''

The victim of the first shooting was struck once in a leg and was taken, in stable condition, to a hospital, Wyatt said.

The suspect, who may have fired at a police helicopter before he was shot after failing to comply with officer commands, was pronounced dead at the scene and a weapon was recovered, police said.

No injuries to officers were reported.

A SWAT team searched an apartment on Roberts Street before the area was deemed secure, police said.
