Gunman storms West Hollywood podcast studio, tries to rob host

A podcaster who goes by Adam22 was reaching out to thousands of listeners Sunday when a man with a gun suddenly stormed into his studio.

"He ran in and immediately had the gun pointed at Adam," said Yuriy Alymbayev, one of four people in the room. "He said give me your money."

The moment was caught on camera. Alymbayev said it was a moment of vulnerability that no one suspected.

"We had just had food delivered by Postmates, the door was open for maybe 30 seconds to a minute," said Alymbayev.

Within just seconds of the man pointing the gun at Adam, his friends in the room took the man down to the ground and held him until police arrived. The store on Melrose in West Hollywood sells BMX gear and clothing but is known for the podcasts Adam22 does in the back.

"He gives a lot to the community, especially hip hop," said a customer outside his store Monday.

The podcast highlight up-and-coming rappers. The initial online reaction was one of concern, but shortly after, many began to question whether the whole thing was a hoax.

"No, this was 100 percent real," he said. "If it was a joke, it would be a weird joke since the kid got the [expletive] kicked out of him real bad. But it definitely was not a joke."
