Firefighter responding to 9-1-1 call has medical emergency of his own

L.A. City Fire Dept responded to a medical emergency at 2 a.m. Wednesday morning when the firefighter behind the wheel had a medical emergency of his own.

The truck hit a row of five parked cars on Burbank Boulevard. It also hit eight power poles, knocking down two of them. Three thousand customers were without power.

Fire officials say a power surge after the crash or perhaps wires connected to a building caused a small fire inside a liquor store on Woodman and Burbank.

The fire department says considering they respond to roughly 1,200 emergencies every day and this is a rare incident.

They also say the driver has at least several years worth of experience and thousands of hours of training to even be behind the wheel of the truck.

Firefighters can't say exactly what the firefighter suffered from.

But we know he was taken to the hospital and released. No one else was injured

Power has been redirected to Sherman Oaks/Valley Glen area. Everyone now has power.

But the construction work going on now will continue until tomorrow - possibly even the day after.
