Father of dead infant found in Bellflower surrenders at US-Mexico border
The father of an 8-month-old girl found dead behind a Bellflower mortuary surrendered to federal law enforcement at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department confirmed Alexander Echeverria was taken into custody on Monday. Sheriff's officials held a news briefing Monday afternoon to briefly discuss the case.
They said Echeverria was returning to the U.S. from Mexico and had a lawyer with him at the time of his surrender.
Sheriff's officials declined to comment further on the case citing an ongoing investigation.

The L.A. County Coroner's Office identified the 8-month-old as Alexia Rose Echeverria. Detectives believe she died in Sacramento. She was last seen with her father, 22-year-old Alexander Echeverria in a grey 2014 VW Jetta. Authorities said Echeverria's family told law enforcement that he suffered from depression.
The infant's body was discovered on May 27 in a car seat partially covered by a blanket behind Funeraria del Angel in the 10300 block of Alondra Boulevard in Bellflower.
