Deputy-involved shooting in Menifee leaves one dead

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly deputy-involved shooting in Menifee.

Around 3:50 a.m. Sunday deputies from the Perris Sheriff's Station received a report of an attempted carjacking in the area of Scott Road and Hahn Road.

According to the sheriff's office the suspect brandished a weapon and attempted to take the victim's vehicle. The victim then fled the scene at which time the suspect shot at him. The victim was taken to a hospital, his condition is not known.

Around 4:48 a.m. deputies say they received a second report of a carjacking. The suspect brandished a weapon and carjacked another victim, officials said. The suspect then fled the location in the victim's white BMW sedan.

The vehicle was eventually located in the city of Lake Elsinore, deputies say when they attempted to stop the vehicle a pursuit ensued. They called in assistance from the Murrieta Police Department.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office says the pursuit ended in the 32000 block of Garland Lane.

After the suspect stopped the car, he took out a gun and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was pronounced dead on location.

A K-9 from the Murrieta Police Department was also injured during the shooting. The K-9's injuries are not life-threatening.

The deputies and officers involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave.
