Average U.S. price of gas per gallon drops to $2.41

LOS ANGELES (FOX 11) - The average U.S. price of regular-grade gasoline plummeted over the past three weeks Wednesday to $2.407, a price point not seen since December of 2017.

According to AAA figures, the average sits at four cents cheaper than last week, 28 cents cheaper than last month and four cents less than last year.

Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg of the Lundberg Survey said Sunday that falling crude oil costs are the main reason for the decrease at the pump.

Drivers on the West Coast continue to pay the highest pump prices in the nation, according to figures from AAA.

Hawaii ($3.57) is the nation's most expensive market, followed by California ($3.45), Washington ($3.25), Alaska ($3.14), Nevada ($3.09), Oregon ($3.07) and Arizona ($2.75).

While high, many state averages were lower on the week: Alaska (-8 cents), Hawaii (-7 cents) and California (-7 cents).

The average price of a gallon of regular gas in Los Angeles County also dropped Wednesday for to $3.46, its lowest amount since March 13.

In Orange County, the average price of a gallon of regular gas Wednesday was $3.39.
