Fatal shooting of man in Sylmar prompts hours-long search

Police investigating the shooting death of a man in Sylmar arrested two suspects, one of whom was booked on suspicion of murder, authorities said Friday.

Officers sent to the 12300 block of Montero Avenue about 11:10 p.m. Thursday found a 26-year-old dead inside a vehicle, the Los Angeles Police Department reported. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.

"Officers saw a possible suspect attempting to leave the location in a vehicle, and (he) was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon,'' a police statement said.

Police then saw a second suspect driving away from the area, and they followed the vehicle to the area of the Foothill (210) Freeway and Polk Street, where he got out and ran off, the LAPD said.

Authorities searched the area and later arrested the man, who was booked on suspicion of murder. The names of the suspects were not immediately released.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call homicide detectives at (818) 838-9954, or (877) LAPD-247.
