LOS ANGELES - Willie (2009) is a bright and happy child with a smile that will warm anyone’s heart. Willie has a calm and mannerly demeanor, and speaks with precision and decisiveness. When asked what he wanted to be when he grows up, he said an engineer. So, we brought Willie to meet and learn about the field of aerospace with a real life engineer at Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum in Compton, CA.
Willie received a briefing while visiting historic and current aircraft up close. He got to see the very first solar powered aircraft delivered to the U.S. and learned all about its features. Then it was a visit to the engineering lab where the engineers discuss an idea, translate it into design, and apply the final stages into a vehicle. Willie was excited to see their state of the art, 3D printers and design software.
In speaking one on one to Willie, we found him very much in touch with his thoughts and feelings, with a high level of emotional intelligence for his age. Willie also has genuine enthusiasm when given the opportunity to explore new activities and interests in that he will do the research and learn everything that there is to learn about the subject at hand. Some of his other interests include learning how to play the drums and gymnastics. Willie always keeps himself active. After he finishes homework, he likes to play video games or soccer with his friends.
Willie flourishes with individual attention and would thrive in a home setting where he could perhaps be the youngest or the only child. Willie would like to have an active family that can help him explore his many dimensions of interests and to introduce him to new activities as a family.
