Wednesday's Child: Alton is on the cutting edge of hope for a permanent home

This week's Wednesday's Child is Alton (2003), an outgoing and athletic kid with a playful side and a good sense of humor. It was no surprise that Alton was gung-ho to help kick off the holiday season at Pershing Square Ice Rink in Downtown LA - including a one-on-one ice skating lesson from Olympic Gold Medalist Oksana Grishuk.

This was Alton's first time skating so some slips and falls were expected and Alton gladly accepted help and advice from our expert skater. Alton remained determined and eventually got the hang of bending his knees more to experience success on the ice. Soon Alton was skating around with the kind of confidence he usually displays when he is occupied by some of his favorite activities such as playing football, basketball or hip-hop dancing.

Alton is typically a polite, engaging and happy-go-lucky youth who does well at school and thinks about being a football player in the NFL someday. Alton does well with other kids and has a great deal of patience. While such traits indicate he would make a good big brother, Alton is open to considering family "teams" comprised of different numbers and sizes.

Like an ice rink, life can be slippery at times and we all can use a helping hand. For Alton, he was happy to have Oskana with him on the ice but it is the support of a permanent family that he needs for life.
