3 kids hurt after vehicle crashes into a preschool in Santa Clarita area
A car crashes into a Santa Clarita area preschool, injuring several children Monday.
SkyFOX was over the crash scene at La Petite Academy of Saugus a little after 5 p.m. The preschool is located on Seco Canyon Road in Saugus.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department says three children were taken to the hospital after the crash. The crash also prompted an evacuation, the school told FOX 11 through a statement.
The Adler family is grateful their 2-year-old daughter, Shayna, is OK after getting the call from staff members at La Petite Academy about the crash involving Shayna.
"They said a car went through the wall. She's [Shayna] fine, but you better come over here now. I was shaken, but I'm kinda relieved a little bit too," said Allison Adler.
Allison is a physician so when she saw her daughter, she evaluated her along with the hospital staff on scene.
"I looked at her and said 'oh OK, she looks good.' I'm just happy she's OK," said Allison.
Shayna was airlifted to the hospital along with two other toddlers. Shayna was later released from the hospital, and Allison said the parents of the other two toddlers told her their kids will be OK as well.
"We're going to watch her [Shayna] for 24 hours, see if she's OK but then we have to figure out what to do with her tomorrow because I've gotta work and the preschool will be closed," said Allison.
La Petite Academy released the following statement after the crash:
"This afternoon, a school family member’s vehicle accidentally struck our building and drove into a classroom. There were three children and one staff member in the classroom at the time. Our staff followed our safety protocols. First responders arrived immediately, assessed the condition of the children and staff and took them to the hospital for further evaluation. Out of an abundance of caution, we evacuated all students and staff. We will remain temporarily closed as we further evaluate and address the damage. We will be exploring options to further increase safety. We’d like to thank the responders for their support. Nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our children and staff."
The crash remains under investigation.
