Preliminary magnitude 4.1 earthquake shakes Ventura County

A preliminary magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck Saturday evening in Ventura County.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) says the quake was reported at 5:44 p.m. Saturday about four miles northwest of Santa Paula.

It was recorded at a depth of about 16 miles. According to USGS, the quake could be felt as far south as Long Beach, and as far west as Santa Barbara.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. While there are many variables involved, geologists say damage does not usually occur until the earthquake magnitude reaches somewhere above 4 or 5.
