Job Finder: Be part of the U.S. Census team

Despite the coronavirus, 2020 is a census year.

An army of “census-takers” have already been approved and hired but because of the pandemic the bureau believes people may back out of the job given the requirements.

Opportunities are currently available in all five counties that make up Southern California and in a video provided by the census bureau it describes what to expect.

“You’ll work in communities either updates address lists and maps or going door to door interacting with people are ensuring that accurate information is collected so that everyone is counted.”

To apply to be part of the census team you must have a valid I.D. You must be at least 18 years old, have a valid social security number, be a U.S. citizen and have a valid email address. Right now, the census field operations are shut down because of the coronavirus but as the survey prepares to resume in June, they need workers, census workers especially.

Employees will knock door-to-door if you haven’t filed out your census questionnaire by mail, phone or online.

“This is important because the results of the census have real world impacts across our country…from determining the number of seats has to planning roads, an accurate count is crucial.”

Veterans are encouraged to apply too since they’re already on file with the government.

This is also a great opportunity to earn extra income, the census is competitive in pay, the hourly rate for ‘census takers’ in Los Angeles County is $25 an hour, it varies depending on where you live.

The census does pay weekly, they have flexible hours and you can find more information about the job on their website at 2020census.gov/jobs.

Keep in mind, the job openings are for mid-to-late summer depending on when health officials give the field offices the green-light.
