Firefighters are battling a brush fire that broke out at Camp Pendleton Monday evening.

Camp Pendleton officials say the vegetation fire broke out in a training area and has a slow rate of spread. Smoke could be seen from outside the base.

By Tuesday morning, the fire had grown to 150 acres and was 80 percent contained, officials said.

It was not immediately clear if any evacuations were taking place.

No further details were immediately known. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Camp Pendleton is located in San Diego County near the City of Oceanside.
