The planned 41,000-square-foot natural and organic foods market is being built at Eighth Street and Grand Avenue, part of a larger, 700-unit residential development by Carmel Partners.
The market is projected to bring about 150 jobs to the area, and would join Ralph's Market as one of just two large grocery stores in the area, according to City Councilman Jose Huizar, who announced the opening date with Whole Foods and Carmel executives during a downtown event.
"Residents of downtown have wanted a Whole Foods for years, and I'm very happy that my office has helped deliver it,'' Huizar said.
The store will "improve livability and will bring "even more great investment for downtown,'' he said.
