WATCH: Ohio trooper hit by car during traffic stop

Frightening dash cam video out of Ohio shows the importance and value of move over laws.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) said a sergeant with the Chardon Post was struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop last week and they shared video of the crash on Facebook.

"Thankfully, his injuries weren't life threatening," OSHP said. "But dash cam video of the incident shows the dangerous nature of these crashes."

The Georgia Department of Public Safety shared OSHP's video Friday morning as a reminder to obey Georgia's Move Over Law, which says that "motorists traveling in the lane adjacent to the shoulder must move-over one lane when emergency and utility vehicles are stopped on the side of the highway and operating in an official capacity."

The law is meant to keep traffic violators and law enforcement officers safe. The fine in Georgia can be up to $500.
