The chase on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway began shortly after 9 a.m., and continued on the freeway to an area just east of downtown Los Angeles.

The man then drove off the side of the freeway and across a field, and crashed the truck into a concrete berm at the side of a roadway.

The motorist then abandoned the truck, ran into a Boyle Heights neighborhood shortly before 10 a.m. and sat on a curb waiting for officers. He surrendered without incident upon the officers' arrival.
