The individual who was reported as having a handgun on the 710 Freeway has finally gave up after being under the overpass for an hour Thursday morning. A sheriff's investigation prompted closure of the Long Beach (710) Freeway earlier in the morning in both directions near Cesar Chavez Avenue in East Los Angeles. The overpass is the Ceaser Chavez overpass.
A man believed to have a handgun was held up underneath the overpass through Monterey Park in East Los Angeles. The man was spotted spraying graffiti in the area, and when officers approached him, they indicated they saw a handgun.
Three schools were lockdown: Hilda Solis Learning Academy, Esteban Torres High School, and Brooklyn Avenue Elementary.
