Where to get free donuts for National Donut Day

Every year the world celebrates National Donut Day on the first Friday in June, and this year the special day is coming up on Friday, June 3rd.

National Donut Day was first celebrated during the Great Depression as a way for the Salvation Army to raise money and awareness.

Today, National Donut Day is mostly about free treats.

Here's a look at where you can snag a free donut on June 3.

-Krispy Kreme is offering one free donut per customer, no purchase necessary.

-Dunkin Donuts is giving a free donut with the purchase of a drink.

-Randy's Donuts in Inglewood is giving away free donut holes from 6 a.m. to noon.

-Entenmann's is hosting a contest on Facebook with the chance to win free donuts for a whole year.

-Joan's on Third, which has locations in Studio City and Beverly Hills, appears to be planning something. Last year, they gave away free 'J' shaped donuts to the first 100 customers.

-Birdies LA is giving away a $100, 24-karat gold donut via Instagram. Followers, or anyone who reposts the 24K, champagne glazed, edible gold leaf donut will receive one for free. Winners will be picked on June 2, and will receive the donut on June 3 in the store.

-The Salvation Army will also celebrate National Donut Day at the USS Iowa from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to honor veterans. The event is free and open to the public.

Happy donut eating!
