An Afghanistan war veteran uses his incredible shooting skills to save a symbol of our nation.

Jason Galvin and his wife were driving down a rural road in Minnesota when they spotted the bald eagle hanging upside down from a tree.

The eagle's leg was snagged in a rope that was wrapped around a branch. It apparently had been there for two days.

They called everyone they could think of to get some help, but from the police to fire...all said no.
Jason's a good shot.

So he grabbed a .22 rifle and gradually...with a hundred and fifty shots - nicked away enough of the branch and the rope to free the eagle.

The eagle fell safely into some branches below, then was gathered up in a blanket.

The Army vet said the eagle's rescue was an emotional experience. He said quote: "there was a lot of tears...when it finally came down, it was breathtaking. It was a beautiful moment." He named the bald eagle "Freedom."

It's now living at a bird rescue center.
