Customs: Passenger hid 1/2 pound of cocaine in vagina

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - A woman admitted to U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents at JFK Airport that she had inserted a foreign body into her vagina that later tested positive for cocaine, according to the USCB.

Shekira Thompson had arrived from Kingston, Jamaica on Feb. 21 when she was escorted from the inspection area to a private passenger screening room.

It is not clear what prompted officers to further screen Thompson.

The vaginal insert produced a white powdery substance, according to CBP.

In a photo released by CBP, the cocaine was tightly packed in a taped enclosure.

"This seizure is just another example of our CBP officers being ever vigilant in protecting the United States from the distribution of these illicit drugs," said Robert E. Perez, Director of CBP's New York Field Operations.

The amount of cocaine seized was approximately 1/2 lb. and with an estimated street value of $10,000.

Thompson was arrested by Port Authority Police and faces narcotics smuggling charges.
