Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets recalled over plastic concerns

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a food recall this weekend involving chicken nuggets products produced for Applegate Farms, by Perdue Foods LLC, according to news release.

Approximately 4,530 pounds of chicken nugget products have been recalled that "may be contaminated with extraneous plastic materials."

The product effected is the Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets that were produced on Sept. 28, 2015. The 8-ounce boxed packages contain approximately 18 pieces of "Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets" with Best Before Date 09/27/2016. The products subject to recall bear establishment number "P-2617" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The items were shipped to retail distribution centers in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York, and Texas, the statement reads.

The problem was discovered when the establishment received consumer complaints of small, solid, clear plastic inside the Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products, officials said.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
