Nashville couple want wedding gifts to help the hungry

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Rather than asking for wine glasses or a new blender, a Nashville couple have asked their wedding guests to donate money to address hunger problems in their city.

The Tennessean reports that Jacob Weiss and Joy Teal asked the guests to their March wedding to give to an online fund they set up with the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

Weiss and Teal, both of whom are social entrepreneurs, say they are hoping to raise $10,000 to provide micro-grants to local nonprofits as well as individuals who have ideas about how to solve local hunger problems.

Domestic hunger relief organization Feeding America says an estimated 49 million Americans are food insecure, including more than 1 million people in Tennessee.
