Man Arrested After Standoff With Police In Panorama City Hotel

PANORAMA CITY (CNS/FOX 11) - Police on Sunday took into custody a man who had barricaded himself inside a hotel room in Panorama City and reportedly ignited a fire while inside that room.

The suspect, who suffered minor burns, was taken into custody at about 6:50 a.m. and rushed to an area hospital for treatment, according to a watch commander at the Los Angeles Police Department's Mission Community Police Station.

Police were dispatched to the scene in the 9100 block of Sepulveda Boulevard on a report of a group fight at the location, she said.

"This guy might have been smoking (drugs), she said. "He had made several 911 calls throughout the night."

The fire department was called to the scene at 6:10 a.m to a put out a small fire in one unit of the two-story structure, according to Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department. It took approximately 50 firefighters 36 minutes to put out the flames, according to Scott.

At some point the suspect tried to leave the scene out of a back window and was taken into custody by police, according to the watch commander.

"There was evidence of narcotics use inside (the room)," she said.
