Woman's body found in gutter of Gardena street

A man who allegedly admitted killing a woman and dumping her naked body in front of his motorhome in an unincorporated area between Compton and Gardena was arrested Friday on suspicion of murder.

The 55-year-old man, whose name was not immediately released, was being held on $2 million bail, according to the sheriff's department.

The body was discovered about 9:20 p.m. Thursday in the 14300 block of South Main Street by a woman walking on the sidewalk. The victim, about 40-50 years of age, was face down in the gutter, naked and unresponsive, authorities said.

According to the sheriff's department, she had suffered "blunt force trauma to the head and body.'' An autopsy was pending. Her name was withheld, pending notification of her relatives.

After the body was found in front of the motorhome, which was parked along the curb, deputies contacted the occupant of the vehicle and began questioning him.

Sheriff's Lt. John Corina said the man told detectives the woman was a prostitute he had picked up at a different location and brought to the motorhome. Some time "during the last couple of days,'' the man "ends up killing her inside the motorhome'' after some sort of argument, and "ends up just dumping her body here last night,'' Corina said.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
