Warships, Coast Guard cutter arrive at Port of LA for LA Fleet Week

- U.S. Navy and Canadian warships and a Coast Guard cutter will begin arriving at the Port of Los Angeles Tuesday in advance of the annual LA Fleet Week festivities, which will include ship tours, musical entertainment and other maritime-themed activities.

Los Angeles city officials, including Mayor Eric Garcetti, are expected to join with port and Navy officials at an afternoon news conference to mark the onset of Fleet Week, which will officially begin Wednesday and continue through Labor Day.

Beginning Tuesday, five active Navy and Coast Guard vessels and more than 1,100 service members from the United States and Royal Canadian Navy will arrive at the port for the festivities. The Battleship Iowa museum in San Pedro will serve as the backdrop for many of the week's activities and play host to musical acts including Quiet Riot, Los Lobos and Vince Neil of Motley Crue.

A welcome party will formally begin the festivities Wednesday night in downtown San Pedro.

Guided tours of the visiting vessels will begin Friday and continue through Monday. The weekend will also include aircraft flyovers, a STEM expo with exhibits and activities, displays of military and civilian first-responder vehicles and a veterans village with information on resources for current and past members of the military.

A complete list of events and other information is available online at www.lafleetweek.com.

The military vessels scheduled to be in the port for the week are the U.S. Navy Minesweeper USS Scout; Navy Amphibious vessel USS Anchorage; Navy Destroyer USS Dewey; Royal Canadian Navy Frigate HMCS Ottawa; and U.S. Coast Guard Cutter CGC Active.
