Ventura-bound Metrolink train strikes, kills pedestrian in Northridge

A Metrolink train struck and fatally injured a pedestrian today in Northridge.

The victim was struck about 5:10 p.m. in the 8300 block of Balboa Boulevard, north of Roscoe Boulevard, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.

The train involved, number 117 bound for Ventura County, stopped between the Van Nuys and Northridge stations. Another Ventura-bound train, number 123, was later canceled and the tracks between the two stations were closed, according to Metrolink.

Alternate transportation was being sought for affected passengers, according to Metrolink.

Police closed a stretch of Balboa Boulevard between Roscoe Boulevard and Parthenia Street, according to a report from the scene.
