Venice woman wakes up to man standing by her bed

A Venice woman woke up Monday morning to find a prowler standing at the foot of her bed, but managed to flee her residence to call authorities, police said.

The "hot prowl'' occurred at 3:10 a.m. inside a studio apartment at 28th Avenue and Speedway, said Lt. Joseph Sanchez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Station.

A woman awakened to find the man standing at the foot of her bed holding what she feared was a knife, Sanchez said.

"They had a short conversation and he went into the kitchen, which allowed her to run outside and to a neighbor's apartment to call police,'' he said.

The suspect was gone when police arrived, Sanchez said.

A search of the area turned up a possible suspect, but the man was interviewed and released, police said.
