LOS ANGELES (FOX 11) - The University of Southern California announced a new partnership with United Airlines that will concurrently change the name of Memorial Coliseum.
Memorial Coliseum will be renamed United Airlines Field this summer, said officials.
In a series of tweets, USC noted that the historic landmark memorial would be renamed as a dedication to WWI veterans.
"The naming of the field is a significant step in USC's efforts to usher in a modern era for this historic landmark and preserve its legacy. Through this process, USC was guided by doing the right thing for the community as we continue to honor our veterans," said USC interim President Wanda M. Austin.
In addition to the stadium’s renovation, USC and United will continue to work together to identify additional ways to honor L.A. veterans including providing support for military veterans who attend USC as well as erecting a memorial in honor of veterans at the Coliseum. 2/5— USC (@USC) June 7, 2019
