Two people killed in traffic crash in Inglewood

A fiery, two-car crash in Inglewood Thursday left two people dead and a third person badly injured, authorities said.

Paramedics sent to the area of 108th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard about 9:25 a.m. pronounced two people dead at the scene, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported. The third person was taken to a hospital.

Both vehicles caught fire in the crash, which occurred across the street from a county fire station.

"A firefighter in the fire station ... heard the collison, went out to help (and) found two vehicles well-involved with flames,'' county fire Capt. Brian Jordan told news outlets.

The firefighter and passersby pulled two people from one of the cars, Jordan said.

"Citizens and firefighters performed CPR on one person ... (but) the other person was dead at the scene,'' he said. The person who received CPR also died, Jordan said.

The occupant of the other car suffered injuries that included "a severely broken leg,'' Jordan said.

Reports from the scene indicated that both vehicles may have been traveling at high speed at the time of impact, with the cars ending up about 200 feet apart.

The crash was being investigated by the Inglewood Police Department.
