The clock is ticking on a Simi Valley dog rescue

The clock is ticking...

TLC is a rescue agency in Simi Valley. For 36 years, at various locations, Linda Nelson has been helping unwanted dogs find new homes. But, as a result of a dispute with her landlord, she now has to find a new home for her business and all of the canines who are caught in the middle.

She's being evicted and, with her volunteers, they're packing-up the doggie collars, trying to find foster homes, and hoping people who want rescues will come in before the day they all have to be out! Tuesday, June 21st at 6:01am. But, she says, she can't find a landlord in this community that wants a rescue agency.

Nelson says, "The hardest part about this is that the community doesn't understand that if we don't keep saving these dogs, if we just keep putting them into the shelters, eventually everything fills up. Right now the shelter has over 600 dogs. What do you do with these animals?"

At any given time there have been as many as 140 rescues here. Right now there are 54. Many breeds and ages and every one has a story. Like SOX. She says, "SOX was turned in to the shelter and the owner requested euthanasia because she's too fat."

She's helped dogs like that lose weight and found them new homes.

Nelson is devastated with the turn of events. Again, she's looking for Foster Homes, dog-lovers who want a rescue and a new place for her business because time is running out. Nelson says, "I got to believe it's going to work out."

TLC is located at 1736 Erringer Road (second floor) Simi Valley, CA 93065
