'Suspicous' package found at Sherman Oaks mall deemed safe

A Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad determined that a suspicious package found Saturday in a Christmas decorating area at a Sherman Oaks mall was an egg wrapped in duct tape and no threat to the public.

The package turned out to be harmless, but it forced the temporary evacuation of the Westfield Fashion Square at 14006 Riverside Dr., said Officer Jane Kim of the LAPD's Media Relations Section.

A bomb squad was dispatched to the scene at 7:40 a.m. and determined at about 10:30 a.m. that the package was no threat, Kim said.
