Suspects arrested in fatal shooting of 12-year-old Victorville girl

A known gang member and two others are now under arrest in the shooting death of an innocent 12-year old girl in Victorville.

26-year old Anthony Pitts a documented gang member was arrested in Redlands Thursday night.

His girlfriend 29-year old Danielle Cummings and another friend 28-year old Reyna Mercado were also arrested.

They are charged with the murder of 12-year old Makiya Walls. During a news conference, John McMahon of the San Bernardino sheriff's office said, "investigators determined there was an ongoing feud between the suspect and the victims family and the victim's residence was targeted by Pitts, Cummings and Mercado."

A neighbor who did not want to be identified said she's not surprised by the violence and that the police have been called to the house many times.

"The situation was ongoing. We've watched it for over a month. I knew something would happen."

Police say Walls was sitting on the couch in her Victorville home on Monaco drive when Pitts walked up to the house and opened fire with a shotgun killing her.

But Sheriff McMahon said, "the evidence suggests that Makiya was not the intended target, of this violence."

Then, in a strange twist at about 12:30am Friday morning after the girls vigil, police arrested the victim's mother 35-year old Maesha Lundy and her boyfriend 34-year old Christopher Hicks for making phone threats to the suspect's family Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

"Unfortunately in situations like this emotions run high and the mother of Makiya obviously shaken by this event but she was involved in some activity that amounted to credible Terrorism threats against the suspect and suspects associates." Said Sheriff McMahon.

The girl's mother and her boyfriend remain in custody on a 50-thousand dollar bond each.

The sheriffs department says 1-million dollars has just been allocated to start a task force to address gang violence in the area.
