Man arrested in hit-and-run that left woman critically injured

Long Beach Police have made an arrest in a hit and run collision that left a 59-year-old woman in critical condition.
Detectives arrested 83-year-old Edward Peterson of Long Beach at his residence on Thursday. He was booked into the Long Beach Jail for felony hit and run with bail set at $50,000.00. The involved vehicle, registered to Peterson, was located at his residence and impounded as evidence. 
Maria Mendoza of Compton was struck about 6:15 p.m. Saturday in a crosswalk at the intersection of Willow Street and Long Beach Boulevard, according to police.
Mendoza, who was found lying unconscious on Willow Street, was hospitalized in "very critical condition,'' according to police, who said the hit-and-run vehicle was a champagne or beige colored smaller SUV.
Detectives were able to locate Peterson after receiving a tip from the public.
