Study says Long Beach ranked one of the worst cities to raise a family in California

According to a study conducted by the site Wallethub, Long Beach ranked in the bottom half of worst cities to raise a family in California.

The report ranked Long Beach 209th out of 240 cities in California, measuring each city along four major categories: family life and fun, education, health and safety, affordability and socioeconomic environment.

Long Beach scored below average in most categories, ranking 100th in percentage of families with children younger than age 18, 201st in median family salary (adjusted for cost of living) and 137th in quality of school system. In other categories, the city ranked as follows:

The No. 1 city in the state to raise a family, according to the study, is Folsom, a Northern California city.

Among other local cities: Cerritos ranked 68th, Lakewood 91st, Downey 157th, and Paramount 216th.
