Speeding vehicle strikes, kills man on Santa Ana street

A man was struck by a speeding vehicle Thursday night in Santa Ana and died at a hospital.

A vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on South Cedar Street near Occidental Street struck a pedestrian standing next to a truck, then collided with multiple parked cars, according to Cpl. Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police Department.

The victim died after being taken to a hospital, Bertagna said. The victim was a man in his 50s and a father of three girls.

The driver who hit the pedestrian stayed at the scene and was questioned by police. Authorities said there were no arrests made.

Police said another driver, possibly in his late teens or early 20s, fled the scene.

Authorities could not immediately confirm that street racing was a factor in the crash, but did say both vehicles were speeding.
