A Southwest Airlines jet, heading from Indianapolis to the Los Angeles International on Sunday, was diverted to Kansas City when three passengers began acting suspiciously.

Southwest Flight 5929 was diverted to Kansas City International Airport at approximately 7:50 a.m., according to a statement from Southwest Airlines' headquarters in Dallas.

"The flight crew made the decision to divert to Kansas City in response to several passengers, who did not follow crew instruction upon takeoff, and continued to exhibit suspicious behavior in-flight," according to the statement
emailed to City News Service.

The passengers were taken off the plane, and the suspicious passengers were being questioned by law enforcement. And, as a further security measure, the aircraft and bags were thoroughly checked before the flight was re-boarded, the airline said.

The airline's web site says the flight was expected to arrive at LAX at 10:40 a.m., at terminal 1.
