Small brush fire in San Fernando Valley as red flag warning issued

A small grass fire broke out Thursday morning near the truck transition road from the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway to the northbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Sylmar, authorities said.

The fire was reported about 6 a.m. and prompted closure of one lane of the transition road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

It was not immediately known what sparked the flames, which were quickly extinguished. No one was hurt.

The fire broke out just as a National Weather Service red flag warning signifying a risk of wildfire took effect in much of Los Angeles County. It's due to expire at 6 p.m. Friday.
