Six seriously injured in five car Van Nuys crash

A five-vehicle crash in Van Nuys today left six people hospitalized, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly after 6 a.m. at Sepulveda Boulevard and Vanowen Street, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Mike Lopez.

Paramedics transported the six people for hospital treatment of injuries that were described as "moderate to severe,'' said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Police had been told that a person had died but they later determined that the person had survived, said LAPD Officer Liliana Preciado.

Traffic was routed away from the area while an investigation was conducted.
