Sheriff's deputies break window to rescue dogs locked in hot car

- A concerned citizen alerted the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station who rescued two dogs after the owner left them in her hot car with the windows rolled up and no water last Friday.

Here’s the post from the SCV station’s Facebook page:

'We had to do it. We BROKE A WINDOW today to remove two small passengers in a car’s backseat.'

'It happened over at a parking lot on Via Princessa. A customer glanced at this car as she was going inside store and noticed dogs. She probably thought the owner just walked away from the car for a minute.

But, approx. 30 MINUTES LATER when she returned to her car, the dogs WERE STILL INSIDE the car and the windows were all the way rolled up! She called SCV Sheriff’s and our deputies arrived along with Animal Control. The deputies went to work breaking the window and removing the overheated dogs. There was not even water in the car.

Later when the owner came to car, she was upset because she thought Animal Control was keeping “her babies.”

Then the deputy pointed out, “Why would you leave your babies in a hot car?”

She learned a lesson the hard way. Animal Control did let her have her babies back. However, she was cited for animal cruelty and has a car with a broken window.

Our job, protect the lives of all and help those who are unable to help themselves.'

Thank you to the deputies who rescued these dogs and saved their lives!
