Retired Long Beach dentist becomes 'flower doctor' to local seniors

When his wife passed away, a Long Beach man decided the best thing he could do is stay busy. But not with your typical busy work, this man decided to make a difference in his community with the use of flowers. Gina Silva has the story.

81 year old year old Doc McBride is known as The Flower Doc. Every week, he picks up the flowers that Trader Joe's can't sell and he delivers them to nursing homes in Long Beach. He says, "To see their reactions, you walk in and you see these smiles, I drive home and I say, thank you Lord for using me. I feel privileged." Doc has been delivering flowers the last two years. He says he loves being a ray of sunshine whenever possible and he encourages others to try doing something special for total strangers.

Looking at her new beautiful flowers, Barbara Le Mond says, "They just kind of give you a little lift. Not that you're down, but you get the flowers and it makes you feel real good. It really does."
